Eastern Nepal (Kanchenjungha)

KANCHENJUNGA

The trekking in eastern Nepal includes Makalu Base Camp and the area near Kanchanjunga along with the eastern approach to Everest. The trails goes through the heavily populated middle hills, along the mighty Arun River, that cuts through an elevation of less then 400 meters. The lowlands do not offer many Mountain views but once the trail reaches the high country south of Kanchanjunga, the mountain scenery is undoubtly one of the world's most spectacular. Its' remote uncrowned location is appealing to trekkers. To preserve local culture and to protect the area's natural beauty, the Government of Nepal has established a special permit requirement to travel in the area. The immigration department requires that trekkers must apply for a registered permit 5-7 days prior to their trekking departure date. The fees are: US$10/per person/per week for first 4 weeks and US$20/per person/per week after first 4 weeks.
Trekking permit fee:-- US$10/per person/per week for first 4 weeks
US$20/per person/per week after first 4 weeks.

Kanchanjunga opened to travelers in 1988. With an elevation of 8586 m (28,076 ft.) it is the worlds third highest peak. A long way from the nearest roads and airports, this trek requires plenty of time(atleast 5 weeks), lots of determination to face the challenges of high passes, and enough good luck to visit both North and South side of Kanchanjunga Base Camp. Due to border problems, a circuit around the mountain is not possible at this time.On this trek, there are few Teahouses, so that cooking and camping gear must all be brought along.

Barun Valley is a part of a huge international protected area managed by joint agreement between Nepal and China. It lies at the foot of Mt. Makalu-the world's fifth tallest mountain, and includes several high passes. It is also an ideal place to visit for bird watchers.

Major trekking routes:-
Kanchanjunga south Base Camp
16 days up to Yalung Glacier with a maximum elevation of 4800 meters(15750 ft.)

Makalu Base Camp
20 days trekking over the high passes and Barun Valley to Makalu BC with a maximum elevation of 5000 meters (16405 ft.)
