While trekking is the term used in South Africa to describe self-sufficient back country travel, early British mountaineers picked up the word to refer to their expeditions in Asia. And now we use it too. A trek in Nepal is a special and rewarding mountain holiday which offers travelers an unlimited picture of local life. Over ninety percent of the Nepalese population live in agriculture areas, making Nepal primarily a country of villages. Walking the paths is best way to visit mountain regions to enjoy views of the great peaks and to experience traditional lifestyles little touched by modern ways. The trekking season extends from October through may, with the best chance for sparkling blue skies and dry pleasant weather in October and November. march through May is also a popular time to trek, with opportunities to enjoy rhododendron trees in spectacular displays of scarlet, pink, and white, and many other flowers. But the skies may not be as clear for peak excitement.

GFAS can arrange tent camping trips where all gear is provided, and tea house trips where visitors stay in small inns each night. Large groups of twelve or more usually tent camp supported by a talented cooking staff. For smaller groups, teahouse ( small lodges with five to ten double rooms) stays are a good choice. But trekkers for should be prepared for simple accommodations. However, more and more hotels with attached indoor baths, hot water, and toilets are becoming available in both the Everest area (Solukhumbu) and Annapurnas.
